MGS in collaboration with The Global Artisan's Initiative work to support artisans all over the world.
The Global Artisans Initiative strives to empower artisans and their families through the promotion of their handcrafts, which support community well-being and strengthens cultural heritage. |
In 2016 UW students were challenged with creating a light source for less than $2.50. The result was a simple, low tech, easy to produce solar powered LED lamp. The lamps serve to help children study at night and provide the opportunity for women to work on making baskets after dark. In 2017 the students received the Wisconsin Idea Fellowship award for this project and were able to travel to Kenya to train women and girls how to make there own lamps.

WATER VEST
|
In 2017 students were tasked with developing a simple way to transport water. Using retired sails from the boating club at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, students developed a simple water vest. Other uses for the vest include carrying food, vegetables, and seeds for planting. In 2018, the students received the Wisconsin Idea Fellowship award and traveled to Kenya.
